Dear Members and Friends of First Presbyterian:

The word disciple in the language of the Bible (Greek) means student. If you are a seeker, you need a place to have some of your questions answered. If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, it is assumed that you will be a student, life long - from the cradle to the grave.

First Presbyterian on Orange Street has a wonderful history of Adult Education and the current program takes adult learning to an even higher level. It allows you, the learner, to discern what your needs are in the area of your own spiritual growth. Then you may choose the course option that is best for you.

God did not create any one of us exactly like another. We are each a unique blend of gifts, talents, abilities and needs. One of the principles that we have learned in adult education is the recognition that each of us will be at different places on the learning continuum at different times of our lives. This current format allows you to select that which is most important to you and to pursue your learning need as a disciple for a defined period of time. It assumes that your needs will change and will continually offer you new opportunities to meet your emerging needs.

Great things are happening here at First Presbyterian on Orange Street. We are a church on the move for Jesus Christ: Celebrating Scripture, Creating a Growing Community of Faith, and Caring in the City.

I hope you will equip yourself as a disciple for your role in helping us to fulfill this vision by taking advantage of one or several of the course offerings. Then I hope you will use what you've learned in your own personal mission as a witness to the good news you have received.
