Christmas Eve Services
A variety of worship opportunities are available to help members and friends of First Presbyterian on Orange Street celebrate the birth of the Savior. And, for families with young children, we host professional childcare in our church nursery from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.
The Children’s Pageant Service
The service has been created especially for families with young children, and it includes the singing of carols, the symbolic lighting of
candles, and a special Christmas Pageant which features our 5th & 6th graders, Junior Choir and Special Youth Choir ensemble.
The Cherry Street Service
This is the sixth year we have offered this Cherry Street Worship on Christmas Eve. While traditional carols are sung, they have a distinctly contemporary sound accompanied by our worship band. A candle-lighting ceremony makes this a special addition for those who prefer the style of our 9:16 a.m. Cherry Street Worship.
The Service of Lessons and Carols
This traditional service of lessons and carols tells the biblical story of God’s saving love in both Old Testament
and New Testament through a series of nine lessons. Each lesson is followed by either a congregational carol or a musical selection. A candle lighting ceremony for all participants is included in this service.
The Candlelight Communion Service
It is a service which allows those who have family commitments earlier in the evening an opportunity to worship. It is also an opportunity for those who want to be in church at midnight on Christmas Eve. The service encourages the singing of familiar carols. The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will also be observed, and Pastor Riggs brings a brief meditation. At the close of the service, worshippers form a large circle around the Sanctuary for a candle lighting ceremony.
