Current Opportunities in Older Adult Ministry

OUR MISSION

To develop a broad based ministry “for, with, by, and to” older adults within our church and community. This ministry includes, but is not limited to, Socialization, Education, Service, and Spirituality.

ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL

Older adults do not fit into one category. Our approach to ministry looks at functional levels, not chronological age, because there are the…

  • young-old, who are active, healthy, eager to be involved
  • middle-old who remain independent, but who experience some of the limitations brought on by the aging process and need some help
  • older-old, who are homebound or living in care facilities, but who are still part of the community of faith and need to maintain these ties.

A NEW MEANING FOR “PEP”

To meet this new challenge, the Older Adult Ministry Committee was formed. Made up of church members, 50% or more of whom are older adults, and with the Pastor to Older Adult Ministry, Dick Foster, as its advisor, the committee recruited a Program Committee that meets monthly, and called themselves by a new name – The PEP Group (We like that better than” older adults” or “seniors”).

PEP stands for People Enjoying People. This past year, The PEP Group has been on the move with trips to the Princeton Theological Seminary this fall, New York City for the Christmas program at Radio City Music Hall and, in July, we took a tour of Germany including Berlin (World War II area), Wittenberg (Reformation area) and the Passion Play at Oberammergau. We also took a group to Dutch Apple Dinner Theater.

For food, fun and fellowship - and a bit of education - we have LET'S HAVE LUNCH TOGETHER once a month after church. Some of our PEPPERS provide an excellent lunch in the Activities Room for people 60 and up or those who wish they were, and we invite a special guest or guests to share information on an interesting topic.

We keep our group informed with our quarterly newsletter PEP TALK.
