We are the church home for more than six hundred households – couples, partners, singles –
of all ages. Our members and others who worship with us come from all points of the compass.
(That's the advantage of a center-city church; hardly anyone is more than 20 minutes away.)
Home is a place where we are accepted, unconditionally, as we are. A church home should
be like that. In our home we praise God with music and the spoken word and we pray with
each other and for each other.
- We are a church home for adults – single or married, young or old
- We are a church home for youth – programs provide a spiritually
enriching outlet for energetic youth
- We are a church home for children – introducing children to the love
of Jesus Christ and our community of faith.
Our church home has a three-part vision:
- Celebrating Scripture
Is there something missing from your life?
Most of us, at some time, look for a closer relationship with God. Our family members celebrate the
scriptures of the Old and New Testament as a way to build that relationship. We praise God as a family in each of four worship services.
- A traditional Sunday worship service
- An early Sunday service, traditional but less formal
- A short Wednesday morning service of prayer and meditation.
- A Thursday evening service of worship and contemporary music, appealing to young adults
(Cherry Street)
- Caring in the City
First Presbyterian on Orange Street resides within the city of Lancaster. We minister not only to our own members but to our downtown neighbors as well. Here are a few program examples:
- Kids Camp, Connections, Future Generations - all programs for children at risk of drug and alcohol abuse.
- Local mission: Clare House and HarbAdult
- Partnership with Memorial Presbyterian Church, whose membership is primarily Hispanic
Equally important, members of our church family work as individuals to support countless other
programs and charities in which they have an interest.
- Creating a Growing Community of Faith
A church home defines a community of believers.
- A community of faith
- A community of friends
- A community of family
Our church home is a community of believers who learn from one another and support one another – building the blocks on which faith is established and supported.
